Reading Notes: Alaska; Part A

The Raven's Myth: Raven's Creation | Source: Myth and Legends of Alaska by Katharine Berry Judson One of my favorite aspects of the story was the incorporation of the "Creator" component, which in this case, was the Raven. The Raven also could be in human and animal form, easily transforming between the two whenever needed Here, humans are present in the main character of the story, which was just "Man" and he would be one of the first and the Raven did not know where he came from Alike many of the creation stories in various mythological legends, humans are created from clay, alongside animals Repetitive dialogue to show emphasis of the interaction between the Raven and Man, the human that the Raven created Upon further research, the Raven represents a number of spiritual importance in the culture of the Pacific Northwest According to Spirits of the West Coast Art Gallery , the Raven symbolizes creation, transformation, knowledge, curiosity, and the unknown

Tech Tip: Canvas Dashboard

In terms of the Canvas Dashboard, I use it the daily to navigate through my classes. I changed the dashboard to my liking by changing the names of my classes as well as changing the colors of it too. Before, since all of my classes are major-based, all of my classes would look the same and I would have to enter and exit so often. I would say that something I'd like to add would be also to customize the cards by adding pictures in them. I think that would be more interesting! I think that for the most part, the efficiency of Canvas is all to the discretion of the professor/teacher in the class. Therefore, if every professor were to update all their classes and due dates, I think it would be extremely helpful to the students.

How the Wives Restored Their Husband to Life . Story source:  Notes on the Folklore of the Fjort  by Richard Edward Dennett. I enjoyed the inclusion of three different powers for the three different wives, sort of like a niche/role that they must work with together to fulfill the goal of finding and reviving the husband This can be something that I can incorporate into my story regarding groups of people, with each having a different power. Each one of these powers would be important in one or more aspects of the adventure themselves. When combined, it would surely be enough to fulfill the goals of the group (or not). The inclusion of such powers in connection with ordinary lives as described in the story is something that I would add in the story Can you believe that someone with the power to revive the dead is still struggling to eat on a day-to-day basis? There was also the inclusion of story logic, which the author proposes to create a theme/lesson that was to be inferred from the

Week 8 Progress

Image
I think I am happy with the current progress that I have in the class so far. As far as scheduling goes, I think I have some more organizing to do as I still tend to miss certain assignments for dates. I think that's more of the fact that I didn't account for the hectic schedule that I've had this semester and is something that I intend to work more towards. Overall, what I'm most proud of and the aspect that I enjoy the most during the week itself are the stories. I think that I've made some strides in my organization as well as creative abilities when it comes to these stories, not to mention for the storybook themselves! For the second half of the semester, I'm looking forward to updating my schedule, both for this class as well as for the other aspects of my life. I think that is the first step of improvement for me. There isn't anything new that I'm looking forward to trying, perhaps try more different tactics when it comes to retelling stories; in

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

Image
Overall I think the comments are good in terms of expressing content with the stories that I wrote. However, for the most part, I saw less constructive criticism than I would've hoped for. Being that there are some presents, I think these are the most useful out of the ones that I've seen. In terms of the quality of the comments that I've given out, I think that they are useful in terms of taking in the whole story as well as providing feedback as well as asking questions. I think that the WWW strategy works the best for me in terms of both giving the author points of strength, as well as providing valuable insights in terms of how the stories alternative can turn out. In terms of getting to know some of the people in the class, I think that the introduction stories provide a good outline of general information about them. My favorite part especially is when they showcase their pets! It's also very interesting to see various people from a multitude of backgrounds in ter

Conan's Share

Image
At his talk show one morning, Conan received word that there was a closed-invite email group going around the office that gives the staff members heads-up whenever there are food deliveries in the cafeteria room. Of course, being a popular talk show, the company receives many complementary foods from shops, such as cakes, candy, and other forms of snacks and treats for the people who work for the show. However, Conan noticed that he was NOT on the list while being the host of the show! This bothered Conan heavily. He had to get to the bottom of this. He set up a trap for his employees. He convinced his insider in the e-mail group to send an announcement to the rest of the group that there were three delicious chocolate cakes delivered. What the employees did not know was that in each corner of the cafeteria room, security cameras were set up!  Of course, as soon as the email was sent out, people came in the doors like moths to a light. Not a single face was missing; Amber from Producti

Week 6 Story: Sheldon and his Wishes

Image
Underneath the ocean floors lie a wonderful array of animals, big and small. Some could swim faster than others, while some are better predators than others. There a single plankton, whose name was Sheldon, who spent most of his days floating around in the water, going with the current. Sheldon was a small lad, but he was kind to his neighbors, never wishing them any harm. Due to his kindness and luck, one day when he was sleeping, a bodiless voice in the distance reached out to him. "Sheldon, I have been watching you closely and see that you are a creature without malice. For that, I want to reward you. I shall grant you three wishes with no exceptions," the voice spoke out to him. Sheldon pondered for a long time. What does he want? Finally, he told the voice in the distance, "O bodiless voice, I wish to be a shrimp. Every day, these animals would try to hunt me down and consume me; however, I am lucky to have made it this far in my life. That luck will end one day, t
